The leaky cauldron interview with JKR - I just wanted to say that she missed the point on the couples things for many of us.

I know there are obcessives who clearly believe that one day their couple will be written into the books, but for the most part, don't most of us like a couple for liking them? For instance, I like the idea of Harry/Luna. It's not going to happen, but there's no reason why I can't like them as a pair in my head. She's talking about Harry/Hermione people being delusional and they should give up because it's never going to happen (that's the vibes I pretty much got from it, despite the way she was trying to be tactful), it's missing the point. Just because someone likes that pairing from her books, does not mean they are delusional. She can't control her fandom into shipping whoever she makes cannon.

I don't happen to like her cannon couples very much at all. Not because I have a grand scheme that I want to happen in the books with couples, I'm not that fussy with it - I like what I like, but I simply don't think that those two particular characters, from the way I have read and understood the books, are good for one another. Or maybe I think that it's all a bit dull as dishwater (Ron/Hermione is a het couple that's cannon that I would say I see and understand, but in my mind, there could be much for interesting avenues for them to explore).

And yes, Sirius never had time for a girlfriend did he? >:D Well, she's got to let one of her precious characters open to homosexual speculation right? Hehehe.

I just wanted a mini-rant on that one.

The thing that really gets to me about it is that she's been divorced before, so she knows full-well that even if you fall in love with someone it doesn't mean it'll last forever (especially when you're teenagers), but she still doesn't get how people would want characters to end up with someone other than the person she's shoved them together with.

Although the person who really left a bad taste in my mouth was Emerson. I never really visited Mugglenet in the past except when someone would point me to something there, but I'm definitely never going to start visiting it now that I know that it's run by a giant dick.

Oh god yes, the mugglenet guy >_<. I couldn't put it better myself about him, and ditto - never really visited there before and now have no desire to. I don't think it helped her interview at all having two people who were totally into the whole Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione thing - because it failed to push her more on why those two pairings, had she ever considered any other pairings for those people, has she got other things in mind for other characters? etc. Instead she got OMG HARRY/GINNY4EVA!

The question that they missed that every person who's read HBP that I know would have posed - what the hell was with the monster in Harry's chest? Do you have one of these yourself? Is it the key to all of your powerz? (Yup, I'm still wtf-ing about that one...)

Yes... that interview... look, JKR, I seriously did NOT see any of these anvil-sized hints you say you dropped for Ron/Hermione, and certainly not for Harry/Ginny. Granted, I'm rather obtuse when it comes to romantic hints, but still...

Eh. Considering the couples that I do like (and Luna/Harry is one of them, heh), I don't much think JKR's opinion makes much difference one way or another. And as I'm not entirely convinced that Ginny has any discernable personality...? Yeah. Not going there.

No, there were no Harry/Ginny hints in previous books unless you count Ginny's one sided crush on Harry. I certainly didn't count it. I just thought she was some kind of insane serial stalker or something (which actually makes her a hell of a lot more interesting in my opinion).

JKR's opinion doesn't count really. It just seemed like a very arrogant, Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione shipper's opinion to me. Way to alienate over half your fans JKR! -_- I don't like that woman. I like the books, but in most of her interviews she comes across as a very smug individual.
